Bushcraft Day Course

This course is designed to give you a good basic understanding of the essential elements of bushcraft and survival skills. The day will consist of / can be tailored to the following;

  •   Spoon carving – Wood identification and selection, tools and techniques to create a spoon to be proud of

  •   Fire Lighting and Fire Lighting Challenge – Fire from scratch, tinders, wood selection and types of fire to serve your need

  •   Survival Fishing and Fishing Challenge – How to catch a fish with only a bit of line and one hook and how to use the poacher’s favourite          method of fishing – night lines. You must find your rod and bait!

  •   Game Prep – Looking at small game and how to make it ready for the pot. Trying to use as much as possible.

  •    Wild Cooking – Either cook your fish catch or small game using direct heat over fire or by creating an underground oven – often used by Mauri’s.

  •    Cordage Making – Create cordage from natural materials which can then be used to create a net or used to trap small game such as rabbits (demo only, no animals will actually be harmed or caught).

  •    Shelter Building – Work individually or as a team to build a water proof shelter from natural materials. Shelters will be judged by how much water      seeps through the roof of the shelter and onto the team below that built it! 

  •    Hide Tanning (Deer / Rabbit) – A look at how to make good use of something commonly discarded. It’s a process that rewards you with a lovely    material to create something useful.


All tools and resources are provided as well as regular refreshments throughout the day.


Lunch will be provided.
